Idyllic cottage in a fabulous location
Positive: Gardner's cottage is charming and full of character. The location is perfect, nestled in the countryside but a stones throw from Chepstow town.
The self check-in was straightforward. I messaged the host Charlotte because I couldn't work out how to lower the blinds and she came straight over to show me. While she was there she was really helpful recommending places to visit and eat.
A lovely cottage in a lovely location. I really can't recommend Gardner's cottage highly enough

Positive: Very clean and well equipped.
Negative: Could have had more storage in the second bedroom.

Positive: Excellent facilities. Extremely clean and well laid out. Comfortable beds and plenty of wardrobe/cupboard space for clothes. Also nice to have a garden with garden furniture which thanks to the lovely weather we were able to make use of. Charlotte, our host kept in touch to ensure we had everything we needed. Added to this was the bonus of the beautiful peaceful setting of Mathern village itself. Will definitely be checking if Gardiner's cottage is available next time we visit as a family. ☺️

Close to so many things yet far enough away to enjoy the peace and quiet.
Positive: Beautiful location, very quiet area. Cottage was well decorated and more than adequate for a short stay. We found the bed damaged after we arrived. it was repaired within hours of reporting it. Despite the initial problem it was probably by far the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in.
Very hospitable host. Little guide notes on the dinner table were very helpful. Cream carpets throughout were immaculate with no obvious signs of damage or stains.
Negative: Lack of a freezer, a fridge with a freezer compartment would have ideal. We were there during a heatwave so would have been nice for lollies or ice. Water pressure isn't anywhere near where it really should be in the shower, we still managed to get showered but it really does let the property down, if anything could be done to improve this cottage the shower would be it. Fully deserves a rainfall shower. Had we reported it, I'm sure it would have been looked at.
